Module 2 Lesson 4. Involving others and getting support Getting help from your local council In the UK, you are entitled to a free ‘carer’s assessment’ from your local council. This is to help you work out what support you need. The person with dementia is also eligible for a ‘needs assessment’, which will look at how they are managing and what support they need. Support could include paid care workers to help out or equipment to help the person with dementia manage around the home. Once you have had an assessment, support services might be recommended to you. Some of these might be services you need to pay for. However, you might be able to access financial support from the council to help cover the costs. More information is available from Alzheimer’s Society: ADD LINK TO DEMENTIA GUIDE IN LANGUAGE
